This red winged blackbird was zipping from one end of the reeds at the golf course to the other, I think he's building a nest. Even with my zoom it was hard to capture him. I know the close up of him is pixelly but I was just thrilled I got him in flight with his wings spread so you could see all that glorious color.

Blooming Cactus
Down the street from us, just before you get to I-15 is a meridian and planted there are these cactus. I've noticed for the last few days that they have big bloom pods on them and yesterday I spotted one had opened so we went back to today to take these shots. The fragrance when you get up close was amazingly wonderful. The cactus itself is a contrast in nature, prickly cactus and beautiful blossoms. They don't seem to go together but the outcome is just spectacular.

Skyline Drive, St George Utah
About 2 miles from our house on Skyline Drive are these pull off parks with trails. We stopped this morning on the way home because we always see people up on the tops of these rocks climbing. It's just amazing the view.
The rock formations are just amazing, and to be this close to home makes it even more so. You are literally just steps from town but feel like you are centuries away. It's a real prehistoric feeling once you walk within the rocks.
Here's one shot looking down into St George at the Temple. So pretty on a day like today. Blue sky and about the perfect temp.
Here's another view, looking over another stop to the park and a better view of the Washington City and Zion in the far background. Such a beautiful spot. Click on the photos to get a clearer view.
When you enlarge the photo and pan to the far bottom right you'll see the temple in the photo above.

A Rainbow of Chickies
A Rainbow of Chickies
Ok your eyes do not deceive you! These chicks have actually been colored! If you click on the photos to enlarge you'll really get a better view. They said that as soon as the egg cracks food coloring is put in and the result are these little tuffs of down in assorted colors.
Once the baby down feathers drop out they'll look just like their cousins once again. I had never seen this done before, and since Easter is tomorrow it looked like a moving Easter basket!

These bags were used by my Dad in the late 50's or early 60's when they left Palmdale California headed to Death Valley. It was the heart of summer, rest stops and gas stations were far and few between and a friend of Dad's gave him the one bag, he had the other with him. I can remember that year, very faintly, and getting a sip of water from the bag, probably just to try it more than needing it. You wonder how it kept the water in and kept it cool. Now they hang in my garage, a piece of nostalgia that I'm not yet ready to part with.
